On the outskirts of Franschhoek is the informal settlement of Langrug, a population of over 7,000 souls and growing. The settlement is in real need and we, with your help, can make a positive contribution to their quality of life. Last year we managed to serve over 21,000 meals and with your continued support we can do so much more.
EVERY DONATION MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE.
About Us
Langrug is a community full of strength, creativity, and untapped potential. At Langrug Community Centre (LCC), we believe that with the right support, every person can create a better future for themselves and their families.
We are more than just a community centre—we are a place of opportunity. Whether it’s through skills training, education, employment initiatives, or simply a warm meal, we focus on empowering people to take charge of their own futures.
Our work is guided by a simple yet powerful vision: to create a Langrug where no one is left behind. We don’t offer charity—we offer pathways to independence, dignity, and self-sufficiency.
Poverty and unemployment remain daily challenges for many in Langrug, but we see the potential beyond the hardship. Through a network of dedicated volunteers, donors, and partners, we are creating real, lasting change by providing:
- A welcoming space where people can learn, grow, and connect
- Support for children, ensuring they have access to books, homework help, and early learning opportunities
- Training and employment initiatives that help individuals develop new skills and find work
- Sustainable community-driven solutions, from township tours to urban gardening
Our approach is simple: we listen, we respond, and we work alongside the people of Langrug to create opportunities that matter.
Every person who walks through our doors—whether as a visitor, donor, volunteer, or community member—becomes part of something bigger: a movement to uplift and empower Langrug from within.
Whether you’re looking to support our work, experience Langrug firsthand through a tour, or partner with us on a new initiative, there’s a place for you here.
Together, we can build a stronger, more self-sufficient Langrug.
In the heart of Franschhoek, the Langrug Community Centre (LCC) stands as a place of hope, transformation, and empowerment. What began as a simple initiative to support vulnerable families has grown into a thriving community-driven centre—one that provides food, education, skills training, and employment opportunities to the people of Langrug.
Our mission is clear: to create a future where every individual has the tools to build a self-sufficient and enriched life.
The building we call home has served the Langrug community since 2012, originally as a soup kitchen. Over time, however, it fell into severe disrepair, with a leaking roof, unstable walls, and the risk of collapse threatening its future. Without urgent action, this essential space would have been lost.
That’s when Steven van Hoof stepped in. Recognising the importance of the centre, he purchased the building and donated it to LCC, ensuring it would continue to serve the community for generations to come. But he didn’t stop there—he brought together a group of like-minded individuals who worked tirelessly to renovate and restore the centre, transforming it into the safe, welcoming space it is today.
Despite challenges, including a devastating fire in February 2024, we have remained resilient. Thanks to the generosity of donors and volunteers, the centre has been rebuilt and continues to provide vital support and opportunities to the people of Langrug.
Langrug Community Centre is more than just a building—it’s a hub for empowerment. Every initiative we undertake is designed to uplift the community in a meaningful, sustainable way.
With a strong foundation in place, we are focused on:
- Strengthening our feeding programs
- Training more local tour guides to share Langrug’s story
- Expanding education and skills development opportunities
- Growing our community garden to promote sustainability
- Providing access to digital tools and training
